I am looking for a unit that can record cable TV standard broadcasts without using disks or VHS tape. Does the Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK 1080p have the capability to do that in addition to it’s VHS and DVD functions.

I spent more money than I could have to buy the Panasonic DMR-EZ47V but have gotten little use out of it because it is REALLY difficult to operate. I used to be an early adopter of new electronics, can edit my system registry in Windows, and have a doctoral degree, but I have to spend time reading and re-reading the manual when trying to accomplish (what should be) simple tasks. Maybe Panasonic made things easier for the new model (48VK)–I would advise not buying it until others have reviewed the unit and its ease of use.

I bought this unit as it had the best reviews.
The connections are to a TV and a Tivo version 2.
I am returning this unit as I cannot make it record to the 4 hour DVD format. I have no use for 2 hour DVD’s.
Also, if you intend using this with a Tivo – forget about it. The hook-up is very complicated. I tried for a day, failed, and called in an audio-video expert. He gave up. There was no way that the Tivo recordings could be sent to the Panasonic.
I had also intended networking my Tivo to my home wireless network. Forget about it.
Only a limited number of modems will work, if at all. My D-Link wireless is incompatible.
Expensive, complicated junk.
