When you put woofers in a box that is to small they dont have enough airspace to flex the right way. So you wont pop the woofers, but they will sound terrible. Just think of it like this. The more cubic per square foot of air you have in a box the more the woofer is going to flex when it hits. You dont want to have to air because the woofer will flex to much and pop and you dont want to little because then it wont flex enough and it wont sound good. Ports in a box do add more air space, but a lot of people just dont understand the way ports work. Ports are not their to allow air into the box when the woofer is hitting, they are just their to allow air to excape faster, which will make your base a little deeper. A woofer needs to be provided a specified amount of enclosed air to function properly. Ports are not enclosed air space. I would say go and spend 65 bucks on a nice sealed MDF box, so you arent risking sqrewing up your woofers or have that terrible embarassing sound when you turn it on Some people have no clue what they are talking about…..lol, like the first guy that answered. You'll probably get bass distortion. EVEN if it is ported, it should still be a bigger box if they're powerful subs. In ported boxes, you still need space for the air to bounce around and create a good resonant sound. A small sealed box won't blow a sub unless the sub is crappy. I bought these speakers not for a car but to replace my older 10″ woofers for my home stereo. As soon as I put them in the boxes I instantly fell in love with them. I can’t even push them to there capacity and I honestly don’t want to. For there price they are some of the best subs I have ever had. They work great in small and medium rooms.

SO, after a little mod to my existing enclosure I threw this sub in there and hooked it up. HOLY CRAP, this thing will rattle the walls in my home theatre room and rival those kids with the "noise" coming from their rattling trunks. For $27 and free shipping (I love you amazon prime) I don't know why more people just replace their stock subwoofer speaker even if it sounds fine. It quite literally took my cheap 100watt subwoofer and turned it into 300 watt subwoofer just by changing the ohms of the speaker i had in it. I have had it hooked up for a few weeks now and after a "break in period" which is typical of all subs and speakers, it sounds amazing. Ok. I was lookin for a good subwoofer for my dodge truck. I bought 2 kicker tens and I wanted more. So i started searching the net for cheaper subs and I came across these. They are cheap so I bought one. I put it in my truck and I really could not believe that this cheap sub sounded so good. So I bought 3 more of these subs cuz I was putting my truck in sound offs. I came in second in my class out of 36 entries. Ok So i went and bought 2 more, took the kickers out, and wow You literally can not be in my truck with the radio on. It is so loud and hits so hard.
