UPDATED:
This unit fully supports 3 HDMI 1080P through with full 5.1 & 7.1 LPCM support. If your Blu-Ray (PS3) is set to output LPCM then DTS HD adn DOLBY HD output as LPCM and sound great Supports full 24 bit / 192 khz 7.1 and sounds really, really good.
I wish the digital was more easily re-assignable. For example, my Comcast box HDMI has to be accessed through the “SAT” button, and my computer audio is on the “TV” button. Programmable button commands (my old Panasonic had) would have made this perfect for the money.
A great buy!!!
I just ordered this from Sony (product available on 4/4/08, so I have three weeks or so until they ship.) I had a DG710 and although the description read that it accepted LPCM through HDMI the reality was it only accepted 2.1 LPCM through HDMI! You have to use Bitstream and DD or DTS for 5.1 or 6.1.
I was furious, I contacted Sony customer support and they didn’t know the DG710 didn’t play 5.1 LPCM! They told me it was defective. I returned it and the same problem occurred with the new one. So I am returning the new one and I ordered the new DG720. All the Sony STRDG models have been upgraded to from 510, 710, 810 and 910 to 520. 720, 820 and 920. The difference, now they all handle surround LCPM. The STRDG720 also has 1 more HDMI than the 710, and that’s exactly what I need so I am very happy about that change.
If it doesn’t work I will update this review around the middle of April.

It would have been nice if you could lable the inputs. I have HDMI for my cable and composite video for my DVD. I had to use SAT as my DVD. Seems like everything else lets you label the input yourself (including Sony TV’s).

Perhaps a case of “you get what you pay for”. It wasn’t till we had the receiver all hooked up that we realized you can’t play speakers A and B simultaneously, defeating our purpose of music in 2 adjoining rooms. Sound quality was poor, as was the FM signal for all but 1 of our local radio stations, even with a power FM antenna. Maybe this is more suited to a home theater set-up, rather than strictly music? We have since returned the item.

Stopped working after 1 month. I power on and nothing happens. POS.
The next time I want to gamble with my money, I’m going to the track instead of giving it to Sony.
One star for the knobs turning.
