I was so excited that the player was packed with a lot of features and even had a digital coaxial output (I ran out of other inputs into my surround sound. After a few minutes of watching the blacks turned pink and the player kept losing the hdmi connection. I do have a non-basic setup but nothing too strange. The player and cable feeds into a 4×2 matrix switch providing signal to 2 TVs. The cable box sound in fed into the surround sound via optical and the blueray player via the digital coax. All controlled by an IR extender. This setup worked fine with a samsung blueray player so I would not think this should be anything the vizio couldn’t handle.

I was very eager to get this player but was a bit nervous buying a new product before reading reviews. First off, the batteries that came in the box were dead, I thought maybe I received a damaged product until I replaced with different batteries for the remote.
Second, after I was able to power it up, I got a nice splash screen for 5 seconds, then the screen went blank. It took me 30 minutes to realize that the automatic resolution is 1080p which my projector does not support (only 1080i) i was able to fix this by hooking it up with composite cable so I can change the resolution, which brings me to my last issue.
It will only allow output at 720p and each time I try to change to 1080i, I get a message that my system does not support it and settings go unchanged! Both U-Verse and my PS3 both display 1080i on my projector with no problem and I know it supports 1080i.
My solution is to leave the PS3 in the living room and put the Vizio in the bedroom on a TV that does support 1080p, but this defeats the purpose of buying a blu-ray player with built in wireless since I can hook it up to my u-verse modem with an ethernet cable if set up in the bedroom.
I plan on returning for a different model that has similar capabilities without wireless.
On the plus side, the wireless network was easy to set up and Netflix and Pandora streaming are easy to use.
I would recommend this if your setup is full 1080p capable! If not, keep looking.
***3/28 Update***
After considering returning to Amazon, I decided it would be too much of a hassle and decided to hooked it up to the HDTV in my master bedroom.
It worked good for about a week but as of today I own a $200 paperweight! I am able to power the unit on and off and that is about it. No audio, visual, nothing!
This is definitely going back to Amazon tomorrow for a full refund. I should have listened to my gut instinct and got a blu-ray player with good customer reviews!

First Let me say I bought the VIZIO SV472XVT Television for its built in wi-fi streaming capabilities and was very happy with the TV.So It came as a bit of a shock when the DVD player turned out to be 3thrd rate. The TV wrapped into my Belkin G+ router with WPA encryption just fine. The DVD player did not. To Vizio’s credit I was able to get someone on the phone that speaks english and understood what I was saying about my network password not being accepted. On WPA authentication, it asks for a password you put it in at the prompt, joila its connected. Apparently unlike the TV, the DVD player uses WEP encryption like many cheesy wireless cameras, you have to run WEP for it to authenticate. As I did not wish to change all my network to WEP, I slaved a pre-N belkin router into the G Router, and configured it for WEP. It was painful, but it works. Not everyone has a spare router to throw at installing one of these, or a router that supports multiple encryption schemes. My next issue was with the Internet apps menu. Again, the TV menu was nice, the DVD menu has far less gizmos, and is difficult to use. Again I ask why isn’t it just like the Vizio TV? Another reviewer mentioned a network server error when attempting to update the flash, that’s because at this point there is no upgrade to the firmware, hopefully; Vizio will update their network configuration and add some gizmos to the menu, like I find on the vizio tv. Another reviewer mentioned the lack of HDMI conversion to 1080I. While me new vizio tv speaks 1080P, the sharp tv that I put the DVD player on speaks the older 1080i. This means you have to use a bulky component video input cable assy, as opposed to the nice/neat HDMI cable. It escapes me as to why they can’t down convert to 1080i. On the remote, half of the control is dedicated to TV control, unfortunately it only works on Vizio TVs, I cannot make it talk to my sharp tv so half of the control is useless to me. The DVD tray is woefully cheesy, and looks like its about to fall off, be careful you don’t break this one. I am keeping the unit, my hope is that some of the problems will be fixed with a firmware upgrade. I will be buying another blu ray to pair with my vizio tv, most likely that will be a sony with bravia wi fi. I would not buy another Vizio.

I pre-order this unit in February and waited five weeks for Vizio to release the player. I recieved the player on March 23rd. When it arrived I plugged in the all the connections(I bought HDMI cable and Digital co-axial cable with the order having been burned by this in the past). I powered up the player and my HDTV sensed it and I thought away we go. I hit the remote open tray button, nothing happen. I tried again nothing again. I then touched the players button and the disk tray opened. I placed my new Star Trek Bluray disk into it and I pushed the remotes button again, nothing happen. Then I touched the players button still nothing, except for the players activation light would turn blue. I then touched the front of the tray and the tray did close. The disk played flawlessly and I was able to setup the WiFi connection with ease. VuDu was easy to surf. I then tried to retieve the disk from the player, but nothing worked. Luckily the owners manual has instructions for manual disk removal. The disk was removed. The tray did close once the power to the player was turned back on, but the tray will not open using the remote or the players buttons.
Amazon’s customer service was very responsive and new player is being delivered for free 2-day shipping. I am hoping that this was an anomially and that the player this time will work right out of the box.
Update 4-5-10
The new player arrived on March 26th and it has been a joy to use. The remote takes some time to get use to, but the new player has no problems. VuDu and Netflix streaming has been great in all formats and Pandora works good.
I have raise my rating from 1 star to 4 stars because of the remote middle toggle switch being difficult to use.
