When I download an AVI video, and then upload it to a 50 inch plasma, I find the picture quality quite poor. Is there a way to improve that, or is the problem that the screen is too big. Is there a different type of file or codec I could download?
In that case, what video files should I download?

The video resolution is probably too small or low quality to begin with. There is no way to improve it since the video was already transcoded that way.
The only solution is to download a better quality video.

Depends on where you’re getting it from. If you’re downloading movies from bittorrent, limewire etc. there are usually descriptions or metadata about the video.
Look for tags like avi 640*480, avi rips/divx dvd rips etc.
Also, Veoh videos are a better alternative than Youtube’s.
A good indicator of quality is filesize. The bigger the filesize, the higher quality it is.
