I am replacing the speakers in my honda civic and was wondering what the difference between component speakers and full range speakers. Any thoughts to what I need and what would be better?

A full-range speaker has the woofer and tweeter (sometimes a super-tweeter) all in one. It’s more space-wise and easier overall for the installer. Component speakers have the woofer and tweeter seperate and have a crossover with it which must be mounted somewhere in the car. Component speakers, from a decent brand, will produce much more accurate and pleasing frequencies than the full-range speakers. Good luck!

just trying to learn about speakers cause im planning on getting some for my jeep grand cherokee. not planning on putting in a sub and trying to go without an amp. any other info you can give me on speakers would be great.

Typically even an inexpensive after-market speaker will be much better than a factory speaker, whether it’s the base aftermarket system or a premium upgrade package. You have to understand that a “premium” OEM system doesn’t typically use higher-quality speakers. It uses separate amplifiers with built-in equalization and crossovers, and adds additional speakers instead of just the standard four. The speakers themselves are usually just a lightweight, paper cone design.
It’s usually not hard to put together an after-market car audio package that will outperform a “premium” OEM system.
