So I’m planning on hookin up my PS3 to my LCD monitor, found a good 6$ cable for the job, but now I need to deal with the leftover wires. In short, how would I get sound?

You need an audio cable. If your monitor has no speakers, then you need to buy a pair of self-powered PC speakers and connect them to your PS3
