I am fairly good at electronics but this thing has me stumped, I read the reviews about having no sound through the HDMI, so I have tried Digi Co-ax, optical and analog.
Not even a wisper have I heard, so yesterday I called Amazon paid a little more to buy this at amazon, well actually alot more $499 v $350. I am so glad I did because the guy at amazon was so nice he just said box it up and send it back does not matter that I dont have the box it came in. He offered a refund or replacement, I have opted for a refund and I am thinking of going with the higher end 790. Hopefully it will work at least thats my logic.
I gave 2 stars because although it does not work it looks real nice, and amazon was very helpful.

I never received the Home Theater system. UPS lost it the day it was supposed to be delivered. Maybe some else is enjoying my home theater.
Why would you ask me to review a product that was lost and you canceled the order?

I am a bonafide audiophile. My sound has to absolutely perfect. And this system does just that. I’m not going to go into crazy detail sighting impedance, frequency ranges and all that technical non sense that means nothing to the normal user. The point is it sounds phenomenal. It’s well balanced, full and customizable. Set up was a breeze. The only con that I can make is that the HDMI input passes the audio to the device you are connecting to. So I had to buy 2 optical cables to get audio from my cable box and bluray player to the unit. No biggie. Just and inconvenience. Don’t waste your money on a Bose cinemate. This is system is not only just as good, it’s better.

For the price, it’s a great HTIB system (I got mine for $400). The sound is very good (better than my old Panasonic system). The only con is probably that the AUX port is in the front and that there is only one. Otherwise, it’s perfect for our needs.

Looks more expensive than it is. 600 watts in my large living room is plenty powerful. Essentially, Yamaha just took existing off-the-shelf components (receiver, woofer, and speakers) and packaged them as an HTIB. Even though it’s all in one, big box, everything has it’s own separate documentation.
Documentation is written by engineers, for engineers. Plan to spend plenty of time studying and trying things (unless, of course, you’re an A/V engineer). Remote control layout isn’t great; lots of real estate allocated to rarely-used, single-function buttons, and the functions you want to use most are on the smallest, multi-purpose buttons. Lastly, universal remote support is very sparse; I never could get any of my other remotes programmed to turn the receiver on/off. The best I could do was program my cable’s remote to adjust the receiver’s volume, which is what you do most of the time anyway.
