Question by szhpaki: How much is contrast ratio important in an LCD monitor?
I am looking to buy an LCD monitor and I have found a variety of contrast ratios and sellers trying to boast about them. I have seen from 800:1 to 10000:1. Which one is better? What should I be looking for in an LCD monitor?

Best answer:

Answer by Mercuri
The higher the contrast, the more clear the picture will be. However, some contrast ratios are skewed because there is no definitive way to measure contrast ratio so some companies put numbers that don’t really mean anything.

Question by taker1974: What is the difference between an LCD tv and a plasma?Which is the better buy?
We are thinking of buying a new tv and dont know which one to get.Plasmas seem to be cheaper but I am looking for the pros and cons between a plasma and a LCD.

Best answer:

Answer by kg7or
In general, the LCD will have a brighter screen, will weigh much less, and will use less electrical power. It also does not have the image burn-in that can happen to a CRT or plasma display. Its downside is a limited viewing angle and a bit of blurring on fast action, such as a long pass in football. The only real advantage of the plasma set is a wide viewing angle. Its glossy screen also reflects light from your lamps or window sunlight; that’s much less a problem on LCDs.

hi guys i was wondering im planning to buy a new sony tv lcd one and there so many differnt kind i dont know which one ist he best there is like sony bavria x series v series z series what is the diff between them please help and what is so good about the newest Sony XBR4?

Best answer:

Answer by A Well Lit Garden
Sony KDL V series (2008):

1080p
8 bit screen
25,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio
5 ms
60 Hz Refresh Rate
24p mode
40″, 42″, 46″ & 52″ screen size options

Sony KDL W series (2008):

1080p
8 bit screen
30,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio
Advanced Contrast Enhancer (dynamically alters backlighting levels)
120 Hz Refresh Rate
5 ms
24p mode
40″, 46″ & 52″ screen size options

Sony KDL Z series (2008):

1080p
10 bit screen & Deep Color
30,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio
Advanced Contrast Enhancer (dynamically alters backlighting levels)
120 Hz Refresh Rate
5 ms
24p mode
40″ & 46″ screen size options

Sony KDL XBR4 & XBR5 series (2007):

1080p
8 bit screen
18,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio
120 Hz Refresh Rate
8 ms
24p mode
40″, 46″ & 52″ screen size options

XBR4 is a 2007 model. XBR6, XBR7 and XBR8 will not be released until later this fall. XBR4 MotionFlow (120 Hz) implementation can produce significant artifacts. The newer 2008 implementation of MotionFlow (in the W & Z series) is much improved, though it still can produce artifacts.
