I agree with other reviewers that the Yamaha HTR-5560 sounds good for the money. The remote is a piece of junk and the overall unit is not the easiest to operate.
But, the ABSOLUTE DO NOT BUY warnning is the total absence of support from Yamaha on their home audio products.
Buy a keyboard, drum set or any band instrument and they’re there for you. Home audio? Who? What?
My receiver has suddenly started turning off in the middle of a DVD or CD. My guess is that it was something to do with heat but it also seems to be related to vibration (it will cut off at, say, the sound of a blast), but I’m not going to find any answers or even clues from Yamaha.

I have had it with consumer malipulation! I have Yamaha’s HTR-5560 receiver and it is a nice one but my Sony DVD just crapped out on me and I bought a Yamaha DV-S5950 as a replacement. Clue, the DVD player’s ONLY digital audio output is component (RCS plug), the Yamaha’s ONLY component digital audio input is assigned to the CD component – the rest, including DVD is optical. What the %$#@!
SO, let me guess, every other year they switch from optical to component inputs so we’ll buy a matched pair.
While I’m ranting, lets’ talk about BlueRay vs. HD, HDMI and PlayAlways. When are we just going to give up on these people and let them know what we really feel about this blatant manipulation!

The reciever is good quality for the price.
The shipping method the seller chose to use was not efficient. Rather than shipping UPS, it came parcel post. Not only did it take 12 days to receive the product, but the box was torn. Product was undamaged.

Nice remote, is capable of controlling other equipment, lots of buttons that takes getting use to. No complaints about the sound, lots of DSP programs to use, particularly like the Pro Logic II setting for movies, works great with a 2-channel source. The only thing I don’t like about this receiver in the volume knob, I would have preferred that it had been made of metal.

Another quality product from a quality company. Never had any problems with this receiver, and haven’t ever wanted to do something, or hook something up that couldn’t be done.
