Nice feature set, if only it worked. The unit would not output video from any source, including its own GUI, to my Pioneer PDP-4214HD television. Pioneer customer support indicated it was likely a bad HDMI board inside the receiver, but it would not output composite video either. The only output I was able to get was audio output from the built-in radio, MCACC, and USB-connected iPod. After spending several hours trying various connections and settings to send video from external devices to the display, I confirmed with customer support that the receiver was malfunctioning, and shipped it back to Amazon. To Amazon’s credit, the return process is painless.
Overall, I am disappointed with Pioneer’s quality assurance. Seems like even the most basic QA should catch such an obvious issue before the product left the factory. The only reason I gave it two stars is because of the nice feature set it supposedly has.
7/20/10 Update: Received a replacement receiver, and it had the same problem. I called Pioneer customer support again, and was told (again) that it must be a defective receiver. However, I connected the receiver to a friend’s Samsung TV and it worked flawlessly. Apparently it is only my Pioneer TV that the receiver won’t communicate with. (My Sony Blu-ray player and TiVo DVR work perfectly with my TV’s HDMI input.)

Now that 3D TV is a reality,I decided to upgrade my receiver to accommodate my new 3D TV. Not only does this new receiver handle 3D, it actually sounds much better then my VSX1019 ever did. I love it!

When trying to set up this receiver I could not get it work work with my xbox 360 using a component connection. I spent an hour and a half with their tech support and they recommended I turn off HD on the xbox 360 and let the receiver do the up conversion. After seeing how poor of a picture that gave me is when I decided to return the receiver. That’s too bad, because I really liked some of the features, including it’s i-pod connectivity.

I like my AV Receiver, it works really well. I like having all of the video inputs on my receiver because it reduces the amount of visible cords running to my TV (I live in an apartment with my TV mounted on the wall, I didn’t cut holes in the wall to run the cords). The video on my TV is outstanding, which leads me to believe that the video processing card on the Receiver is very good.
Over all I’m very satisfied with this purchase, my only critique is that I have a Harmony One remote and the remote has some issue with selecting the correct inputs, i.e. when you press the button on the remote to set up your activity, it may select the right one but it could very likely switch to a different input right after the correct input has been selected. I’ve had a lot of issues with this, even though I’m using the IR Harmony One Data Base for ALL of the commands (which is recommended by the software and my myself, I had more issues using the learn IR capability).
Other than it’s compatibility with the Harmony One I have no negative remarks.
