The HK 3490 is a high current stereo receiver that will give you the best possible audio performance. You can use the optional “Bridge II” to control and navigate your Ipod™. The power rating is 120 watts times two at 8 ohms and 150 watts times 2 at 4 ohms. It has 45 amps of current. It is also XM Ready. It has speaker A/B switching.

Made in China cheap junk,certainly not the quality of the old HK stuff.For the price I guess it is acceptable but if you want something with high power and clean undistorted sound you are going to have to spend much more money.

My first Harman Kardon was purchased in the early seventies. I ordered this recevier expecting the same high quality merchandise and was sadly disappointed. I tried two of the same item and they were both defective. More trouble than they were worth. No more Harman Kardon for me. Made in China. If I could have chosen “no stars” I would have.

After reading all the other reviews on this amp on Amazon, I purchased this product because I needed an amp that could use old style wire attachment speakers as well as the new style that plug in. What I did not know was that this amp does not allow you to attach a woofer with the old style wire wrap. It has separate slots for regular speakers versus a woofer. But, to use a woofer, it must be the new style plug in type. I tried attaching the woofer to the slots for wire wrap for regular speakers but it barely produces any sound that way. Otherwise, it produces great sound quality through the other speakers but lacks the depth the woofer would have added. So, if that doesn’t matter to you, this is a great amp for the price.

After 22 years of listening to music on my 90 w HK integrated amp with Sony tuner, the amp finally gave out. I researched new amps, but decided to buy the HK 3490 receiver. The sound from my old Polk Audio tower speakers is not as full using the HK 3490, especially the mid range, and to some extent the base.
Maybe I should’ve fixed the old amp.
